The limestone is blasted using controlled explosions, forming underground tunnels. At present, these tunnels extend for over ten hectares.
Once extracted, the stone is crushed to prepare it for burning. Burning The limestone is now burned in vertical-feed kilns to form quicklime.
The fuel used is Anthracite coal, ensuring efficient burning with minimum residue and sulphate content. Hydration & Slaking After burning, the quicklime is hydrated, releasing great heat.
The hydrated lime is then allowed to form slaked lime in slaking silos. Milling The slaked lime is now filtered. That which does not meet the desired degree of fineness is crushed by a ball mill to homogenise the fineness of the slaked lime. Delivery The lime is now bagged and delivered to St. Astier distributors, including The Traditional Lime Company.
